| If your particular question is not addressed below, please contact Beauty Schools of America by filling out our
online inquiry form.
Q: Is Beauty Schools of America an accredited school?
A: YES! Beauty Schools of America is licensed by the Florida commission for education, license numbers 1803 and 1334 and is fully accredited by the Commission on Occupational Education Institutions.
Q: Do you offer financial assistance?
A: YES! We DO have financial aid available, both private and government programs. The government programs are based on need. The private programs are flexible and can be tailored to your individual requirements.
Due to Beauty Schools of America’s accreditation, you may be eligible to participate in Federal Title IV financial assistance programs such as guaranteed Stafford Loans, PELL Grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG), and others. Our Financial Aid Officer will gladly provide you with application forms and answer questions regarding eligibility.
Q: What do I need to be accepted?
A: The applicant must be a high school graduate, or have successfully completed the recognized equivalent of a high school diploma (GED), or satisfactorily passed the "Ability to Benefit Test" (ATB) approved by the US Department of Education. As per federal regulation, only a third party may
administer the admissions test. The "ATB" test for applicants to Beauty Schools of America is the Wonderlic test. Applicants must score a minimum of Verbal 200 and Quantitative 210 in order to meet this admissions requirement. Spanish version must score a minimum of 15. You must also fill out an enrollment application and submit necessary health
forms.
Q: Tell me about the classes. What can I expect?
A: Classes are diversified. You're not going to be stuck in a classroom all day. We have lectures, of course, but we also have live demonstrations, guest speakers, videos, and practical application. You can attend classes during the day or evening, and both part-time and full-time programs are available.
Q: Once I finish the program, will I get my license?
A: To get your license, you must pass an exam by the State of Florida’s Board of Cosmetology. The first step to becoming licensed is satisfying an educational requirement of 1,200 clock hours* at an approved cosmetology school, with a minimum number of courses related to cosmetology practice. Once your educational requirement is met, you may actually take the state exam.
*Florida Statute 477.019 allows an approved school to certify a student as qualified to take the licence examination after completing 1,000 clock hours. If, however, the student fails the exam at that time, he or she will not be eligible to take it again until completion of the full 1,200 hours.
Q: Will you help me find a job once I get my license?
A: Beauty Schools of America offers its graduates the benefit of job placement assistance. While we can't guarantee you a job, our contacts in the beauty industry can help you find a position that suits your skills and interests.
